Women's Ministry

This ministry is a sisterhood that ministers to the women of Christ Church.
More Info

Women of today have diverse roles. You could be married or single, a first time mom or an empty nester, a stay at home mom or a career woman.  Whatever the case may be, this ministry seeks to meet the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of women in all walks of life.  This is done by engaging, equipping, and encouraging them through the Word of God.

To facilitate inner, personal, and spiritual growth, we host events from provocative book discussions, social tea gatherings and life issues studies, to special ministry events such as women’s retreats and Mother’s Day outings.

It is our goal to provide our children with a biblical principal and foundation that will nurture them toward spiritual maturity and servant leadership. We do this by:
More Info
  • Training them into discipleship;
  • Effectively educating and teaching them how to pray ;
  • Encouraging them to build healthy and rewarding relationships; and,
  • Teaching them the importance of trusting God and following His will for their lives.

In the Children’s Ministry, we provide our children with a variety of ways to make learning exciting, interesting and enjoyable (i.e., crafts, skits, storytelling, movies, puppetry and other skilled activities). Children can learn to build their faith and know that God has a purpose and plan for their life.

“A Cry For Love” is a dedicated group of members who fellowship through sharing quilting skills and developing art and craft projects for charitable foundations. We want to encourage interest in these projects throughout the church and our community.

An annual Christmas Bazaar at Cheverly United Methodist Church provides us the opportunity to sell some of our crafts that will provide funds for our charitable contributions.

  • Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center
  • UCAP Shepherd’s Cove Shelter
  • St. Jude Quilt of Dreams
  • Avery House
  • Sunday Treats

Membership is open to all who have an interest in the arts and crafts world together with quilting, no matter the level of expertise. In addition, we do accept donations of clothing and fabric.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat… Matthew 25:35

Every month non-perishable foods are collected. The donated food items are delivered four times a year
to the Help By Phone food pantry located at Landover Christian Church where the items are distributed to local Prince George’s County, Maryland residents who are in need.

Families that are referred to A Cry For Love are given canned and non-perishable food items, depending upon availability.  We do not want to lose sight of the lack of food in the world and in our community.  We encourage interest in this project throughout the church and our community.

Anyone in need of food assistance, please call 301-772-2290.

Praise & Worship Team: leads the Church into worship through song each Sunday morning.

CCI Gospel Ensemble: began with the initial service on the first Sunday in March, 1999. God has continued to extend his favor upon this group. CCI Gospel Ensemble does not consider singing as a duty, but as their ministry unto the Lord. They sing unto the glory of God with joy and thanksgiving.  CCI accompanies the Pastor to outgoing engagements. This Ensemble leads in music that uplifts our spirit and exhorts us to praise God.

The 4Cs (Christ Church’s Children’s Choir): our youngest group of singers, ranging in age from 1 to 13, who glorify God with their voices through song. This group encourages and allows children to worship God and express themselves as young worshippers

The Usher Board is dedicated in serving the body of Christ. Our mission as the forerunners of the church is to assist, guide and direct the congregation during the service. The ushers help the pastor make service a success by keeping order in the sanctuary. This ministry is fulfilled by performing the following duties:
More Info
  • Preparing the sanctuary by making sure the temperature is set at a comfortable level.

  • Arranging the envelopes, fans, literature and other items
  • Standing as a door keeper and greeting all guests.
  • Directing the saints with a smile, providing them with a program for the service, and leading them to a comfortable seat.
  • Passing the collection plate
  • Standing as a guard at the door during times of worship and altar call to allow the propagation of the Spirit without distraction.
  • Being observant to all saints in need of assistance and service at all times.
This ministry is a very vital part of the church service. From greeting the saints at the front door to guarding the sanctuary from disturbance during altar call, the flow of the service is predicated on good ushers!

Essential to this ministry is early contact with the bereaved and offering a consistent presence of love and comfort.  We want to be available before, during and after passing and beyond.  Cards, fruit baskets and/or flowers are sent out on behalf of our Christ Church family.  We reach out in an effort to help people transition through their pain and let them know that they are not alone during such a difficult time.
